Daktacort
HC cream 15g contains two active ingredients,
namely miconazole which is an antifungal treatment and hydrocortisone which is
an ingredient which will reduce inflammation and redness. It does this by constricting the blood vessels
so that less blood flows to the affected area.
This cream is applied to the skin where an
infection has occurred including infected eczema.
Miconazole is an ingredient that stops the
production of ergosterol by the fungus which is essential for their
survival. The product kills off the fungi
this way and together with the other ingredient your infection should clear up
very quickly. It will also kill off some
bacteria.
This preparation in cream form is very
suitable for weepy skin conditions, where as a dry scaly skin will be helped
better by the ointment as it is thicker.
This cream should not be used for longer
than a week. Your condition should have
cleared up by then. If it hasn’t you
should switch to Dactarin cream which just contains the antifungal treatment.
Before you apply the cream, you should
ensure that the affected area of skin is thoroughly washed and dry. The preparation must be applied thinly and
evenly. A half a centimetre of cream is
enough to treat a hand.
If the infection seems to be spreading and
it is not going away, you should consult your physician as you may then need a
course of antibiotics to clear it up.
There are certain warnings attached when
using this ointment. You should keep it
away from eyes. One important thing is
not to cover your infection up with bandages as this will not help the healing
process.
The reason for not using hydrocortisone for
prolonged periods, especially the delicate skin of the face is that over time
it may cause thinning of the skin which is a side effect of this type of
ingredient.
This ointment is not suitable for viral
skin conditions such as cold sores or chicken pox. There will be other more
suitable treatments available for these conditions.
