When Fungus Isn’t Fun

The whole fungi family includes delicious truffles and mushrooms and yeast to make bread and beer.
Unfortunately it is the same family that gives us annoying toe fungus. It’s also the type of yeast that lives inside us but can escalate into thrush outbreaks.

The fungus we get on our toenail more frequently than our fingernails takes a long time to fully eradicate. Curanail is a product obtainable from the pharmacy that in many cases is the best form of treatment but if being used for the first time it is probably wise to have a professional opinion.

This is mainly because there is more than one type of fungus that can attack the nail. Curanail ingredients are the result of many years trial and error before the usual process before they can be sold on the open market.

Like any new medical product it had to go through a series of strict trials and years of testing before it arrived in the chemists and could only be sold with a doctor’s prescription.

This is the normal route in the UK for any of the products you eventually see in the pharmacy. After a number of anything between five and ten years it is assessed and reaches the point where it does not need a prescription.

It will still need to be kept behind the pharmacy counter away from the customer. The pharmacist can then sell at his or her own discretion.

Eventually if it passes all the tests it can be sold generally in any store off the shelf. Curanail is such a product although when you buy from the online store of the St. Georges Pharmacy you know that the business is run by qualified pharmacists.

The nail is a curious piece of anatomy as it is structured by the same protein that makes our hair as well as being a part of our skin. The fibrous protein is known as keratin and it is only the amount of amino acids that determine whether it turns out hard as a rhino’s horn or as soft as fine hair.

Daktacort Clears Fungal Infections Of The Skin

Daktacort HC cream 15g contains two active ingredients, namely miconazole which is an antifungal treatment and hydrocortisone which is an ingredient which will reduce inflammation and redness.  It does this by constricting the blood vessels so that less blood flows to the affected area.
This cream is applied to the skin where an infection has occurred including infected eczema.

Miconazole is an ingredient that stops the production of ergosterol by the fungus which is essential for their survival.  The product kills off the fungi this way and together with the other ingredient your infection should clear up very quickly.  It will also kill off some bacteria.

This preparation in cream form is very suitable for weepy skin conditions, where as a dry scaly skin will be helped better by the ointment as it is thicker.

This cream should not be used for longer than a week.  Your condition should have cleared up by then.  If it hasn’t you should switch to Dactarin cream which just contains the antifungal treatment.
Before you apply the cream, you should ensure that the affected area of skin is thoroughly washed and dry.  The preparation must be applied thinly and evenly.  A half a centimetre of cream is enough to treat a hand.

If the infection seems to be spreading and it is not going away, you should consult your physician as you may then need a course of antibiotics to clear it up.

There are certain warnings attached when using this ointment.  You should keep it away from eyes.  One important thing is not to cover your infection up with bandages as this will not help the healing process.

The reason for not using hydrocortisone for prolonged periods, especially the delicate skin of the face is that over time it may cause thinning of the skin which is a side effect of this type of ingredient.
This ointment is not suitable for viral skin conditions such as cold sores or chicken pox. There will be other more suitable treatments available for these conditions.

This Cream Works Well On Fungal Infections

If you should suffer from a fungal condition on the skin you might want to try Daktacort hydrocortisone cream 30g to help you to get rid of the symptoms.

This cream contains two ingredients that tackle different aspects.  The first one is miconazole which has antifungal properties.  This ingredient prevents the fungus from forming ergosterol which is a part of their cells’ membranes.  This membrane is vital for the fungus’s survival. When it gets damaged by miconazole the fungus will start to die off.

The second ingredient, as the cream’s name suggests is hydrocortisone.  This soothes inflammation.  This constituent of the cream stops the skin cells producing chemicals that cause the inflammation.  These particular chemicals widen blood vessels and allow the skin to become swollen and red.

The cream will treat several kinds of inflammation occurring in the folds of the skin.  This includes athlete’s foot which is found between the toes, but it will also treat sweat rash.  These moist areas of the skin are ideal places for a fungus to thrive.

This cream is available as an over the counter medicine or you can get it on prescription from your doctor.  When the swelling and redness has gone you should then apply an ointment that just contains an antifungal treatment.

It is important to treat athlete’s foot as it can spread rapidly to other members of the household.  This is especially true where communal towels are used for drying hands, for instance.

After you have washed your hands, this cream should be applied thinly over the affected area.  This should be done twice per day.  Please wash your hands afterwards to stop the fungus spreading to the other members of your family.

You should not use this preparation for longer than a week.  If the infection persists there are other medications that you can use afterwards.  The same company produces steroid free creams or powder to continue the treatment.

This cream should only be used on the skin.  If you have a similar infection such as thrush or candida, there are different ointments available for these.

Top Tips for Dealing with Thrush

Thrush can be largely symptomatic, and when that’s the case, then great. All you need to do is take your medicine, for instance a Fluconazole 150mg capsule, and then get on with your day. For others amongst us, it’s one of the most frustrating things ever, and what makes it this way is the incessant itch. Urgh. Here, we have created a list of our top tips to help with the irritation of thrush.

Take Your Medicine

First, take your medicine. Some people swear by natural remedies, and that’s fine, but there’s no definitive proof that they actually deal with the causes of thrush, i.e. candida. Medicine, such as a Fluconazole 150mg tablet, is scientifically proven to eliminate thrush from the body. If you want to deal with the root cause, and prevent relapse, then take your medicine.

Yoghurt Helps a Lot

Although the jury is out as to whether yoghurt actually deals with the candida overgrowth, one thing is certain: yoghurt relieves the itch and discomfort. It could simply be because the yoghurt is cold, and that consequently, it’s helping to reduce inflammation. However, it could also be because it’s working to reduce the candida. Either way, it helps to manage symptoms.

Tea Tree Oil

Putting two or three drops of tea tree oil in the bath helps some people with thrush. It’s important that you don’t use too much oil and that you use a pure essential oil supplement, but many people swear by this, so if you haven’t tried it, you probably should.

Grapefruit & Probiotics Help Clear It up and Prevent It’s Return

Some people swear by a combination of grapefruit and probiotics to help eliminate and prevent the return of candida. The scientific community has yet to prove its efficacy, but so many people use this option, that there must be some merit to it, even if it’s just that it helps to deal with symptoms, rather than offering a cure.
